WARNINGS.
I use the backstory from the prequel novel The Price of Freedom in my portrayal of Beckett. As is the case in the book, prior trauma influences the way he acts on a day-to-day basis - be aware that past sexual assault and torture may be referenced when relevant, as they are canonically one of the main reasons he hates pirates as much as he does. He also has a history of sexual encounters with older men in which he felt he was not in a position to revoke consent once they'd been initiated. Parental death may also be mentioned, as well as a very unhealthy relationship with his father.
While he generally dislikes being touched, be aware that Beckett will respond very badly to being physically restrained or hugged in particular because both are visceral reminders of past trauma. That being said, his reactions tend to be a lack of outward reaction - since early childhood, his response to intense fear or pain has been dissociation.
Beckett is extremely racist. He has actively participated in the slave trade and supports chattel slavery, as well as having owned slaves in the past. He perceives people of color as inferior to whites, and while he does not use phrases that were at the time slurs simply because he views doing so as coarse behavior, his racism is plainly evident in the way he addresses PoC and the way he speaks about them.
Beckett's opinions are not my own by a long run. The way he perceives events around him is often warped by his own prejudices, and that is reflected in the way I write him. It is worth noting that he perceives himself as having been a victim in his past dealings with Jack, even though Jack did what was morally right. I, the player, obviously don't agree with Beckett's interpretation of the situation.
If you make excuses for Johnny Depp's recent behavior, please don't interact with me. In addition to the general fact that abuse is never excusable, knowing that another bisexual woman was abused is upsetting to me on a very personal level.
If you ever feel triggered when we're writing please tell me - my partner's comfort is important to me and I understand from personal experience that being triggered is not fun.
**Be aware that working a rape/age gap/slavery fetish into our threads in any way will get you blocked, no questions asked.**
